Salvador Dali was born in 1904 in Figueras in north-south of Spain. He experienced his highest point of painting career as surrealistic artist in years 1926 to 1938, but than his artistic strainght got weaker and weaker.

Surrealist artists embraced the anti-art and anti-establishment philosophies of Europe in the 1920s and focused their work on attempting to capture glimpses into the unconscious mind. Juxtaposed images, dreamlike sceneries and startling contrasts are characteristic of Surrealist paintings. While there were many Surrealist artists during the height of the movement, the four who defined the period were Salvador Dali, Max Ernst, Rene Magritte and Joan Miro.

"Nude Descending a Staircase No.2" by Marcel Duchamp

This piece is called "Nude Descending a Staircase No. 2" by Marcel Duchamp. Duchamp was a French surrealist and dadaist artist. I like the color scheme of this piece. I really like the raw quality of this painting as well. I like the harsh lines and contrast of it.
